"Tkoimo" is derived from a language root that means “to dwell, to settle, to be at home.” This historic root illustrates the shared and basic need to feel at home, and we strive to bring you that sense of Tkoimo by creating lasting, inspiring living spaces both indoors and out.
PRACTICE
10+ YEARS75+ PROJECTS
Active-listening and collaboration are at the core of our practice, and we aim to make the design process as exceptional as the result. At each phase, we articulate multiple design solutions and share relevant construction knowledge so you can make well-informed, cost-effective decisions. Good design should operate seamlessly: from an overarching master plan down to the smallest construction detail, style and function are equally paramount.Over a decade of experience in the Bay Area brings our deep understanding of building code, permitting, project management, and construction processes together with the nimble and tailored approach made possible by a small firm. With consultants, contractors, and clients, we work as a team to translate your dreams into fulfilling landscapes, buildings, and interiors.
PROCESS
The design process begins by overlaying your needs and aspirations with site constraints and permitting feasibility. We pay attention to the ways you’ll move through and interact with each space, optimizing for the greatest impact and experience. We explore how color, light, and void meet texture, walls, and hardware, and help you understand how those will affect your daily life. The composition evolves in layers, building upon itself as we hone in on the final iteration. We do several cost-checks along the way, and value contractors as part of the team early-on. Throughout construction we work closely with all parties to realize the design intent. Our thoughtful, informed process results in beautiful, well-crafted spaces that are uniquely you.
RAIN THALEKAI

A thesis on communication and story-building in architecture inspired her approach to residential and landscape design. When she’s not working on your project, you might find her playing with yarn, exploring the wilds, or searching for cool chairs — and many other things besides.
